BamBam Scared Me!

Last shift when I got home from work I found BamBam laying on the living room floor with his back legs out like frogs. There was no way he could get up on his own. Thankfully I had looked in the cameras shortly before I left and he was not like that then so I knew he had not been there for very long. Got him up and he was perfectly fine.

There is no doubt he knows when I am leaving for a long shift. Yesterday morning when I was heading out the door he was not in a good shape. He was shaking on his back legs and had trouble walking. I texted my friend Lea asking if she could swing by sometimes during the afternoon and give him a round of meds so he didn’t have to be without it for the full 24+ hours. As the superwoman she is, she stopped by around 6pm.
It was hot. Around 100 degrees. I have to turn off the A/C when I am gone and put several fans on in the house since the back door is open so they can go out and do their business. I had been watching them in the cameras and neither Twix or BamBam had been moving a lot… I wouldn’t either. Lea confirmed that he was not perfect. She could walk inside and BamBam was staying on the bed in the living room. So she was able to give him his meds directly instead of on the food.
I continued to monitor them in the cameras. Just after 9pm I saw that he had moved and layed in front of the door. The thing was that I couldn’t see one of his back legs and how he was laying, there was a possibility that he was in “frog position” again. I was absolutely panicking. In the same time we got busy at work so there was no way I could shut down the truck for an hour and go home and check on them. I tried to get hold of my next door neighbor to see if they were able to go over and check on him but they didn’t answer the phone. I tried to look as often as I could and I could see that he had tried to get up as his body wasn’t really in the same place. But if it was simply because he was hot and tired, slipping or actually unable to due to his position I wasn’t able to tell. But after an hour he laid on his side. That was a good thing for me. That meant that he was not physically able to be in “frog position”. And shortly after I could clearly see his both back legs that was hidden by the table earlier. Okay, that gave me some relief. I knew he was not in any sever pain due to that.
We came back to the station just after midnight. I looked once more to see the situation and he had moved to the other side of the room! HALLELUJAH! He was okay! I started cry of relief.

We got four hours of sleep… for me that was to wake up every hour to check the camera. He was okay. 6am came around and I don’t think I have driven that fast home ever from work. I was crying the entire time. I had so many emotions. Got out of the car and the first thing I hear is both dogs barking. I couldn’t unlock the door fast enough. And there he was, standing up and happy to see me.

Twix is a dog who always tells very clearly if something is wrong or what he wants. He went straight to the water bowl and barked! OMG!!! They didn’t have enough water for the heat! Lea probably didn’t check the water!!! I went and got another huge bowl and filled up two big bowls to them and yeah, that was the problem. They were so thirsty! A/C turned on, food and water in overflow and as soon as the house had cooled down all of us went to bed for three hours of cuddle time!!!
I don’t think they sleep very well when I am gone because every morning we go to bed after a shift, both of them snores like timbermen. I bet you can hear it all the way to the street!

Both boys has been perfectly fine the rest of the day. I’ve had some emotion outbursts of gratefulness that they are okay. I have a lot to think of these days to make sure this never happens again… not sure my mental health can deal with it… there will be two huge bowls full with water for them next shift! That’s for sure!
