Outside Mineola is a huge nature preserve. I had never been there but heard that it would be beautiful with nice trails. Intended to go there many times but never made it. Until yesterday. We got a call for a person that fell at Dr. John Thomas Bridge.

Due to the location Mineola Fire Department responded with us to the call. They have vehicles that can go in to the location instead of our big ambulance. There would be no way we could turn it around and in some places it would be too heavy and might get stuck.
We packed up their ATV with everything we may need, hooked on the trailer with stretcher and off we went.

Sometimes my job gets very interesting. I was standing on the brush truck enroute to the patient.

I had to watch out for branches and bumps in the road. It had been raining all morning so everything was wet as well. But these kind of calls are fun and different!

The patient had a broken ankle and was taken to the hospital for x-rays. Maybe this wasn’t the way I wanted to see the preserve but it inspired me to go back! I will absolutely bring the dogs one day and take a nice walk, when it isn’t too hot!
