If you have followed me for a little bit you know that me and the city has a disagreement of how tall the grass on my front yard can be. In their mind it has to look like a golf course because I live on a corner yet, my neighbors yard is much taller.
On Saturday a friend who works at Christus EMS came by to drop off a t-shirt and I joked with her and said that she should be on standby at my house the following day when I was mowing my yard. I have to do it every Sunday if not before so it looks good when the City does the Monday rounds. So despite the fact that it is over 100 degrees hot, it has to be done.
Before I left work today I was joking with my coworkers and telling them that I was going home to mow my yard and hopefully I won’t have a heat stroke.
I was sitting on my way home pepping myself for this task. I had planned exactly how I was going to execute this mowing task. I was going inside, let the dogs out, change t-shirt but keep my pants on and then go straight on to mowing and then trim the sides where I have the lights. I would put some wet towels in the freezer so they could cool and I would have plenty of cold water ready with electrolytes just to add, ready on the counter. I was focused and I was ready to embrace the heat.
But then I pull up to my house and I just stopped the car without backing it in. Thank God I was sitting down. Did someone mow my yard for me? I mowed it in a different pattern than I usually do last time and this was evidently shorter and done in the “normal” (an most logical) pattern. I parked the car and walked out on the yard. The neighbor across the street was looking at me like I was the weirdest person on the planet. He could see my confusion. I walked over to the side of the house. Yes, someone had mowed my yard, but who?
It wasn’t too hard to figure out actually. A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the mowing ordeal in a Wills Point group on Facebook. One of my friends, Lysia, sent me a message offering her son to come and do it. The price was very cheap but I feel I don’t have the finances to let someone else do it. I really don’t mind doing it, but on my own terms, not because the city is haunting me with penalties if I don’t have it done every freaking Monday. It’s a good workout and it only takes about 40 minutes to mow and maybe 10 to trim so it is not that hard. But it was really nice to have Caleb as a back up if I have to work a full week or if I get sick or for whatever reason needed help doing it. It does give me a lot of mental relief to have that safetynet so to say.
But today, Caleb had been out and about with his mower and he swung by me and saw that it was time to get it done, so out of kindness he took his own mower and got it done. There are no words for how grateful I am for this kindness. I called Lysia up and almost cried of happiness on the phone. Today of all days, it was a surprise out of the blue! I could just move the lights, take the trimmer and trim the edges and it was done. It took me less than 10 minutes.
Thank you Caleb! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I don’t think you understand how much this kind act meant to me today! After three days of 12 hour shifts in this heat in an old ambulance, get a surprise like this… It is not a lot that gets me speechless but this did!
