24 Hours In Mineola

Back in February or March, long before I moved to the Athens Station, a coworker asked if we could swap shift. Sure, I had no clue at that time that I was going to be on a 12 hour truck this many months later. So, here we were… swap was made and I didn’t have any problems really with it, I have just become comfortable and used to doing 12 hour shifts and honestly a little nervous because I know how much the Mineola truck can run some days. But I knew the medic, Seth and him and I always have a lot of fun on our shifts!

We were busy, yes but it was steady. It wasn’t as crazy as it could have been. We had some cardiac patients, some covid patients, a fire standby, a wreck… nothing super serious thankfully

It was fun to see the firefighters from both Mineola and Quitman again as well as the Mineola PD. Not that I had the time to talk to them very much but yet, good to see they were doing well. They were quite surprised to see me back in town again.
And of course we got the traditional 06:45 am call, just before the next crew came on so we got off an hour late. That is just something you know with the Mineola truck, you will not get off on time. It was fun to be back for a shift but I am so glad I did the move to Athens. It is all good to pick up a 24 hour shift now and then but I doubt that I will go back to do that on a regular basis again.

We were posting for a little bit and these two fellas came and visited us. They were so sweet and of course disappointed that I didn’t bring a big steak for them to chew on. Sorry guys!

Well, this day will now go to recovery. Recover myself from being up most of the night. I am back in Athens tomorrow so it is almost just a turn around for a couple of hours. Spend time with the dogs, prepare some food for tomorrow and that’s it. This day will fly by for sure!
