A couple of weeks ago, while at work my left arm suddenly started to itch. And it would not stop for hours. It was absolutely crazy. Thought it was something in my sweater that aggravated my skin. Went home, washed the sweater and wore it again the next shift. Same thing. So back home and wash it again. After that there was no problem.
Some days later my arm started itching again while in the shower. Remember this on May 1st?
That would be the beginning of a living hell. It started itching on both arms and on my waste. I figured, maybe I had gotten a bed bug with me from work so I called exterminator to blow out the house and treat my bed. He said he couldn’t find any bugs. Guess that’s a good thing. But the itching did not stop, it only got worse. Shingles did pass my mind but it didn’t really fit in more than the location. But it started spreading to my shoulders and my legs. Benadryl cream did not work, nor did anything else.
This morning I had enough. It’s been 10 days of this living hell. I am bruised on my back and nothing helps. So I called my doctor (again). Thankfully I could get an appointment an hour later so I just got my stuff together and headed that way. That would turn out to be very good that I did.
In my last phone conversation with the nurse, she said they would contact Lakeland and request my records. At that time she said it I thought “I haven’t agreed to that” but that was it. Figured maybe he could request them since he worked there or whatever… didn’t think more about it. Until today when the nurse came in with the form… they had not gotten the records because I had not signed the paperwork to approve it…
So.. he couldn’t say anything in regards to the lab results as he hasn’t compared them with previous results yet. I’m so glad I didn’t get this in my face on May 22nd, I wouldn’t be happy to wait another week or two for that!
Anyway… in regards to this crazy itching… yeah, that’s no bedbug or shingles. That’s an allergic reaction of something… huh… He prescribed me Prednisone and Zyrtech to go and get at the pharmacy.
Now I of course wonder; allergic reaction to WHAT??? Don’t think I haven’t done any research since I heard “some kind of autoimmune disease”. I have done a lot! And I have concluded two options… Lupus or Celiac Disease. Neither of them anything that I want. But adding this itching and allergic reaction to “something” adds up to both. Could that “something” be gluten? I eat a lot of bread and pasta… maybe not the healthiest but that’s just the truth…
Due to being on Prednisone, the doctor wanted me to move my next appointment to beginning of June so sadly I have to wait a little bit longer. But if the Prednisone works and I don’t have to go crazy on this itching, I don’t have any problems waiting I guess…
Thought to myself that maybe I should try to slow down or cut the gluten already now and see if anything changes. Anyway had to go and get some groceries so I started to look for gluten free products. Was surprised actually that there is quite a lot of it, at least there.
A friend from networking texted me out of the blue asking me how my arm was. I met her the day after it started and she wondered what had happened. So I told her my suspicions and mentioned that I was going to try to remove or cut off the gluten. Turned out that her daughter has Celiac and she came with a really good point… If I cut it completely now the future tests that has to be done to conclude it completely will be inconclusive… See, this is reason #2 for the day! Thankfully I have a bunch of products at home still that are gluten stuff, bread, frosties, etc etc etc so I won’t completely cut it off. But I can at least start looking and having that mindset… eat more greens and stuff. That doesn’t hurt.
Then my trip to CVS to pick up the meds. I already had two prescriptions waiting that I had planned to pick up tomorrow when I head to Downtown Forney Market. So in total 3 meds to pick up. The first two was no problem… but the Prednisone was nowhere to be found. I really feel for the poor staff at the pharmacy. The drive thru line was long, inside was the same and even though there was more than one line and I had pre-paid I held up the line for a long time. When two staff members couldn’t find it they decided to make me a new bottle… They were super nice and apologized many times… But I laughed a little since the problem I’ve had with CVS in Canton has mainly been that I got someone else’s prescriptions… does Forney have the same problem? Did someone else get my bottle? Well, I got my meds that I needed and thankfully wasn’t in a hurry anyway so no biggie… I pray that this Prednisone will work. Dr. Rich advised me that they could affect my POTS (Post Orthostatic Tachycardic Syndrom) so I have to drink a lot of water and just be careful. I have taken Prednisone before and didn’t have any problem then but I absolutely will be careful… for an hour, until I have to go out and mow the yard… LOL… in 80 degrees… great… oh well…
Tomorrow is Downtown Forney Market again. I’m excited! The weather is supposed to be good. Hopefully not a lot of wind as last time. I hope it will be a successful day, I need some cash in the bank after the Terrell Jubilee Disaster! We will find out tomorrow…
