Terrell Jubilee = Rain. That is a well established tradition. This year was absolutely no exceptions. The vendor event was Saturday and Sunday. The entire Friday was complete rainwash. It was flooding absolutely everywhere. I was at work and we even heard that a tornado (or very hard winds) had hit the east part of Forney. It turned out to be wrong information thankfully.
When I signed up for the jubilee I thought that I could work the night, head home and feed the dogs and then head straight to the event. As I got closer and I haven’t felt right the last couple of weeks, I realized this may not be a good option for me. I may simply be too tired. So I asked one of the part time guys if he was willing to cover for me. So he came in at 8pm on Friday night so I could go home and sleep in my own bed. This decision was the best one I have taken in a long time!!! Not only was I feeling shit all day so to go home and sleep in my own bed was heaven. But I also could pack the car early on Saturday morning and not have to drive around with everything for days before.
Woke up at 5 am and packed the car quickly and headed to the barn before coming to Ben Gill Park. The grounds were completely soaked but the rain had stopped since early morning at least. Of course my booth had two big mud holes in it and I quickly had water above my ankles. But I got my booth set up early and could then just watch everyone else work on theirs for a couple of hours. I met some old coworkers at the city and they offered me a pallet for my booth so I had some dry spot! They were my heroes!!!
You see the water to the left of my yellow jacket in the right picture? That doesn’t look bad but that is a big hole! And this picture was at 8am, imagine when I broke down the booth at 5pm… yeah…
The weather made this event a rough one. People stayed home and didn’t come out and shop. I don’t think I heard one single vendor who had a good event. I had the worst event financially in Harlequin Tea’s history. After doing the bookkeeping this morning, the bottom line showed +$9.66. So I have to look at it from a branding and advertising perspective. I got the brand in front of many people, I gave out many cards and everyone who bought something got my real estate magazine. That’s it. There was nothing the organizers could have done, nor myself to change the outcome of this event. It is what it is.
I made some good connections with other business owners and employees and over all had a great day! Won two fun cards at my neighbor’s booth Film Alley!
I decided early to break down my booth at the end of the day. I did not think I would come back today. Sundays are slow days at the jubilee to begin with. Then the forecast looked like this:
Simply not happening. And I was glad I did. When I woke up this morning at 6am the rain was pounding on my window and the thunder rumbling. I was just thinking of everyone who left their stuff, hoping they didn’t lose anything. Read on social media that the chamber and food vendors had helped packing down peoples stuff and getting it into somewhat safety… amazingly kind of them!
I decided to take a slow day, not knowing it would be this slow. I got out of bed at 7am, went up and got the dogs breakfast and did all the financial stuff from yesterday. At 9 I got so tired again I decided to go back to bed. Who cared anyway, right? Slept for 1.5 hours like a rock!
When I got up I decided to go to the barn and check on the horses. Almost expected them to swim around in the pasture. It wasn’t raining as bad in Elmo at the time I was there though so they were actually out and eating grass!
Came home to find that we didn’t have any power. Not much I could do so I took the dogs and crawled back in bed. Intending to watch a movie or play some games on my ipad. But it didn’t take 5 minutes and I was sound asleep again! Another 2 hours completely knocked out. What in the world? I have now slept 15 hours out of the last 21! Can’t really blame the weather for that… Haven’t felt really bad but jeez. Wonder if I will be able to sleep at all tonight… We have power back now at least but it’s still drizzling… time to try to get me some food…
