It’s been on my mind for months. Where will I be able to find hay for a reasonable price and is there anyone that will be able to deliver since I can only get 5 bales in my car at a time and that barely lasts 2 weeks? It was very convenient when I worked in Athens and we had the feed store a block away and I could stop there on my way home when I got paid to get what I needed. Then when I worked in Tyler we had a feed store across the street. Yes there is a feed store in Elmo but they are overpriced to max AND the quality of their hay was miserable last year so I am not going there.
Yesterday I saw a post on Facebook with a guy selling hay for a really good price. Pick up in Terrell. I sent him a message and said that I would like to have 10 bales to begin with (since I didn’t know the quality myself but trusted his ad) but I had to take it in two trips. That wasn’t any problems, we set up a time and place to meet.
When I got there I could immediately tell on the hay that this was awesome quality! He works at a farm in East Texas and this is the hay they got this year. I was honestly stunned! So I asked him how much I had to buy to get it delivered to Elmo where the horses are. Quick negotiation and I have now ordered 50 bales that he will bring me next week or the week after. Amazingly enough, we were able to squeeze six bales in my car. Don’t ask how my car looks like right now but it smells good of hay 🤣.
My girls were excited about this addition to the daily meal!
It was such a burden lifted from my shoulders when I came home. Once I get it all delivered I will have hay probably until March depending on how cold it get. And once that time comes, he promised me that he will have more. I think I stopped giving them hay end of April last year so if I’m lucky it may be enough until then. Regardless, big problem solved!
