Field Training

Sometimes you find a job where you feel that you belong there. That’s what EMS is to me. The entire environment is just something I love. Helping people, the teamwork and all that comes with it. I feel that I’m meant to be on the box.

Yesterday was my first shift in field training. I wasn’t really nervous about it more than I have not worked a 24 hour shift in many years. But I knew that the call volume was not as bad as what I was used to at UT. Add to that, I was on a transfer truck that backs up the 911 system. But we had two calls and then we had to do a shorter post move in the middle of the night.

My biggest issue is that I don’t really find myself around in the area as well and they don’t have the navigator as we had at UT. We are allowed to use the gps on our phone thank God. But the patient care and all that is no problem. It is also just about learning their way of doing things which in some cases are quite different.

One part of Medical Jets is deployment. I don’t know how many trucks but a bunch of them just came back from some time in Florida after the storms there. Since we had some downtime we were assigned to go and wash some of these trucks.

This was before the wash… I didn’t even think about taking an after picture… duuuhhh… But I promise, I washed it and it looked much better for its next deployment.

The shift went fairly fast actually! I got about 6 hours (interrupted) sleep but right now am feeling pretty okay after all. I was mostly happy to come home to the dogs. My amazing boys. I had left the back door open so they could go out. Twix had not even finished his food when I got home. BamBam got a little more for breakfast and a both got a couple of hot dogs. I will love my new schedule as it starts for real on 10/1 where I work 24 hours and then off for three days! That will be awesome! Until then they put me a little bit here and there to make sure I get my 40+ hours in every week.

Tonight is the first E! Terrell for the season. I am so excited. I will most likely be able to participate more now, not just during the shows. So check in tomorrow for an update!
