Feeling Swedish

There are some Swedish traditions I just can’t get rid of regardless of how long time I’ve been gone. And I’m not talking about holidays. On August 3, 1979 (before I was born btw) Swedish Television started a new show; Allsång på Skansen (Sing-a-long at Skansen). Skansen is a Zoo in Stockholm and they have a big stage. So the public is invited to come and sing-a-long with invited artists and then there are a lot of other things around it as well. This show is a Swedish tradition to watch every Tuesday. I have watched it every year since I moved here. And yesterday was the first show of 2023. It is only broadcasted 8 or 10 weeks during the summer, rain or shine! To be a host on this show is an honor and the hosts are usually a well known Swedish artist. This year was a new host, Pernilla Wahlgren. She has been in Swedish show business for years and years. At first I wasn’t really sure how she would do it since she sometimes can be a little… childish… don’t know if that’s the right word. Anyway, doesn’t matter. She was perfect for this! She has a great voice and she really did a great job with the show!

I took the dogs and my ipad to bed and a cup of tea and had a great time singing along. Have to admit I miss Stockholm a little bit looking at the sunny pictures broadcasted. I really wish I could travel over there for a week sometimes and meet all my friends. But watching the show gave me a little Swedishness that I needed. Now I know what to watch next week too 🙂 This will be my weekly summer tradition this year for sure!
