In Sweden we have a celebration on April 30th when we are welcoming the spring, Valborg. We do that with a bonfire and music. Very often there is a choir around the celebrations that sings, there is food and we are just having a good time. Ironically this is most of the times a cold event, so therefore the bonfire is very nice. I have not celebrated Valborg since I moved here, almost 15 years ago. But yesterday the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce (SACC) and SWEA (Swedish Women’s Educational Association) hosted a Valborg event in Plano. The choir Glādjeklangen was invited to perform a short program. So off to Plano I went. The event was at a private property but gaaahleeeee, that was one of the most beautiful properties I have ever been on, owned by Mr. & Mrs. Salomon. Mr. Jerry Salomon is an artist and he had put out his art all over the 13 acres property. It was so beautiful, peaceful and inspirational!
We had such a great time. I sang one solo of a Swedish traditional song; Vårvindar Friska that I had found an english translation to as well. It went pretty good. Hot Dogs and many laughs and I bought a Swedish Viking Hat!
