You know sometimes life doesn’t go as you want or have planned. The beginning of 2023 has had a lot of ups and downs for me. It has really been two rough last months. I am not going into a lot of details, it doesn’t really do any good to write it all down here but the short version is that a doctor whom I never had met decided after reviewing papers that I should no longer work on an ambulance. So therefore I have now transitioned into the communications department aka dispatch. It was absolutely NOT my wish to leave the truck. It was the job I loved and will always love. But I am very grateful that I got the opportunity to do the Critical Call test for dispatch and proud that I made an 89% on it so I was accepted to do this transition. My other option was to get fired, as the doctor recommended.
For the last three weeks I have been observing call takers and controllers and last week was the EMD, Emergency Medical Dispatcher class and exam. I must say that was one of the better online classes I have ever taken. It was a lot of fun and good learning. Great teacher. And at the end of the week, on Good Friday, I passed the exam with 96%. Yes I am bragging about it because I am absolutely not a good test taker)
So what from here? Well I am going to keep my EMT-B license. This doctor only prevents me to work on a truck within the UT Health EMS. I can go to any other company and work as an EMT. Therefore I will absolutely keep my EMT active. But now being an certified EMD as well I am going to learn this job and do my best to be good at it. I take this as a new opportunity to learn new things and who knows what doors it will open in the future!
One of the reasons that I took a break from this blog was time. While all of this was happening I had to be on light duty which meant Monday – Friday 8-5. OMG What I hate that schedule! How does people survive with that? Seriously? I had problems just getting the oil changed on my car on the weekend. Just that pushed me down in a little mental hole. Thankfully I am now back on a rotation schedule as I was on the truck. So while I am in training I will work 6a – 6p. It is such a relief to be off some weekdays! Not even Twix and BamBam liked me being gone every day!!!
All animals are doing well by the way. Life has just continued for them as normal. I have been able to be out on a couple of events with Harlequin Tea. Time has not been my friend as I said and I think the business is what has been the hardest to keep up with! I am used to prepare posts and stuff for 2-3 days and I had to do it for a week! So even if the sales has been slower I have been able to do some things!
I was in Forney on Saturday and had a great event! Didn’t think it was going to be a good event at all as I had another tea vendor just across from me but that was not a problem at all!
The organizer came and surprised me and took this picture. I was not prepared at all!!!
So I am now trying to catch up with life and everything that has lacked behind the last two months. I am off today and tomorrow as well as the weekend so I hope that at the end of the week I will be back where I need to be with everything! That will also make me feel so much better mentally!
