I am exhausted. Three days in freezing cold weather on an ambulance. That was my Christmas! I don’t mind that I worked, it was more the temperatures that bothered me. But it helped wearing ski pants. It probably saved me and no one said anything thankfully. And yes, I will wear them again. I actually took them off around 2pm today so that was nice.
Nothing spectacular happened at work. People still gets sick and wants to go to the hospital, Christmas or not. Though when I came home last night and realized what I had to eat for dinner I wasn’t too happy. Nor with the situation, my planning or anything… a frozen microwaved dinner from dollar store…
I was so over Christmas 2022 at that point it was ridiculous. If I had energy I would probably go outside and ripp down the outside decorations but I was too tired. The barn had been a hassle, everything has been frozen for days and I had to bring water to the pig and the horses etc etc. Just more work than normal and the cold on top of it.
Came to work this morning and worked with the same partner as Friday. Then we had talked about different habits and I had (apparently) mentioned that I drink hot tea, and a lot of it. So when he found out that he was going to work with me this morning his wife went out and got this for me, wasn’t that just too sweet of them! That just made my entire Christmas!
So I’m sitting here drinking Candy Cane Lane hot tea and winding down after a quite busy day. We only had 3 calls but drove over 255 miles. We covered the area between Kaufman and Tyler… It was a lot of driving.
The food has also been a lot better today than last night. We had potluck at the station and dispatch let us swing by and grab us a plate…
That sweet potato casserole was just amazing! The ham was actually donated by a husband to a patient that came by one day when we were posting in Athens and gave it to us to have today. He wanted to make sure we all got to eat something good on Christmas. Sweet man! Thank you!
So Christmas hasn’t been bad really. It hasn’t been exciting either for that matter but I guess that a good thing. But I am glad it is over. I am off two days now and that will be very nice. I can feel that my body is a little sore and tired after the cold weather.
This morning I had an idea. The last 3 years I’ve signed up for Run The Edge with the goal of walking 1500 miles in a year. Sadly, the last two years I’ve failed my goal. Well sort of, kind of not. I had a goal to walk 1500 miles which I failed but I also said this year that I was going to exceed the miles I did in 2021 and I actually made that goal!
And it was when I saw that, that I figured I am going to do it next year again with the same ambition. My official goal in the tracker is 1500 miles but my main goal is to exceed whatever my final mile is on 12/31/22. At this very moment it is 1145.49 miles and I doubt that I will be able to reach 1200 miles… but here we go!!!
It is at least a good motivator for me to walk… and so are the dogs!
Time to have a date with the pillow now. I hope that Twix won’t wake me up as he did last night at 1 am… half an hour prior the alarm goes off. Better though that he wakes me up when he needs to go out than any other options. Have a good night folks!
