Back at work after a week home sick. It was nice to be back even though it was rough when the alarm went off at 1:40am. It was the first day back for my regular partner Rance as well. He’s been gone for 8 weeks for a surgery. It was nice to have him back!
Yesterday was a pretty nice day. We drove a lot but only ran 3 calls. Everything in the truck worked, including the A/C. Today though was different. At 9 am the A/C went out. And it didn’t just go out it really blew up. It went from working to smelling burned and blowing HOT air. We called the mechanic at 9:30 and they were going to “try to find another truck” for us. I’m not kidding, it was hot. We had to drive with the windows down to get any air at all in because we couldn’t even turn it on without it smelling bad and the air coming out was warmer than the outside.
If you ever see an ambulance driving with the window down, that crew are not having a good shift, I can tell you that. But thankfully it worked in the back of the truck. Therefore we had to remain in service while waiting for another unit to magically appear. While waiting Rance came up with a temporary solution:
It actually worked fairly well until we had to move and it fell down. Thankfully we didn’t have any calls during the time. Both Rance and I was sitting in the back trying to be as cool as possible until we had to move. And at 1:45 another truck came! Hallelujah! It may be old but it had a working A/C. You know when I am hot, then everyone else is boiling. And no A/C in an ambulance in August Texas… that’s a NO!
Hopefully our truck will be back on Friday when we come back, and then working as it should!
