The MRI is Done!

The day had come. 5 years of question marks could come to straighten out. When I first got sick 5 years ago a MRI was done at Christus Mother Frances. In the results from that MRI it reads:

“Small site of chronic but abnormal signal is seen in the RIGHT basal ganglia near the posterior limb of the RIGHT internal capsule. No similar abnormalities are noted elsewhere. This could be a remnant of prior injury. Possibility that the patient has very early demyelinating disease such as multiple sclerosis is not entirely excluded. Appearance is not conclusive with regard to the underlying etiology at this time.”

That’s a lot of weird medical terminology to me but what was told to me was to check this up within a year to make sure that this has not changed. I told the story before so I’m not going to drag it again but I finally got an MRI approved and today was the day…

I have to go to the hospital to get it done since I have a pacemaker. The hospital had set up with Biotroniks so they had an representative there who put my pacemaker in MRI mode with help of this little magnetic device that they hold over my pacemaker for 30 seconds.

So I thought that they would basically turn off the pacemaker and then monitor and take actions if needed… but I was so wrong. They put it in a 100% pacing mode of 75 bpm. That was a little awkward when I tried to lay down and relax during the 15 minute procedure because the heart was all going faster than normal. It didn’t hurt, it was just a different feeling. As soon as the procedure was done the technician put the pacemaker back into the settings that has been figured out for me and I felt just fine again. So it was super easy.

I had to run some errands on my way home. But just when I walked in the door I had an email that I had a new test result in MyChart. Wow, that was fast!
I didn’t really know what to expect. I wasn’t worried that it had changed anything during these 5 years but I wanted to know. I wanted to be sure and not be in that unknown “if” zone. And if there, for whatever reason, was any changes, I was prepared to deal with it. But it was all relief and happiness when this showed up on my screen

This doesn’t even mention anything like the findings 5 years ago!!! I am not going to ask any questions because right now I am in a happy and relieved mood that I didn’t even think I could be in. I am just stunned! Happy tears are flowing down my cheeks! It was an entire wall of weights that lifted from my shoulders in an instant. I did not expect this amazing result!
Think about the amount of hits to my head I’ve had during the last years. I can count to at least 10 mild concussions, yet it has not affected my brain. I am now able to leave this behind me and move on without any worries about stupid abnormalities that may be MS or whatever it said in the first scan because they are not longer there. It is time to celebrate!
