What are we doing between our calls is a question I get sometimes. Well we post. We have several locations that dispatch sends us too where we hang out and wait until we get a call or someone else has to call so we have to move to their location. As you probably can figure out, there can be quite some down time some days. Some days we never make it to post. But today we spend a good while at a post that has a huge parkinglot. My partner had put on football radio which I have had enough of listening to it for 12 hours and then gone to sleep. I was about to become super tired and had quite some pain in my hip. So before I also fell asleep I tumbled out of the truck and started walking. Mostly to wake up but after about 2 minutes I figured that the weather was really nice, why not make something good out of this. So turned on the fitness app, stepped up the pace a little and did some good walking.
At first I said I would walk until I had closed my exercise ring which I completed in about 10 minutes. But once that was done it felt so good so I didn’t want to stop. Then I said I would walk until I reached 2 miles or dispatched had us moved. I made the two miles!
It felt so freaking good! Not only had I closed all my rings so that goal was achieved, the fact that I had two more miles in the books instead of sitting on my butt in the ambulance was awesome and the pain in my hip was a little bit better. This will absolutely be something I will continue when time and weather permits! I often just go outside the truck but not really purposely walk like I did today! It really made my mood so much better, my body so much happier and yeah, I felt good afterwards.
