My mom was Danish and she cherished her heritage very dearly. Especially when it came to food! We had danish christmas food and throughout the year there was danish traditions incorporated in our daily life. One thing that for me is extremely danish are the red hotdogs. They are bright red, a little thinner than normal hot dogs and longer. In danish they are called rød pølse. Danes eat this with bread on the side, ketchup, mustard and some roasted onions. Delicious.
Yesterday I went to my local Brookshires. I often buy some cheap hot dogs as treats for the dogs. But this time it looked like they were out of them. But I saw some stucked far back so I reached for it and to my surprise this is what I suddenly had in my hand!
What in the world! I have been in this country for 14 years and I have never seen this! Nor did my mom! And don’t tell me this hasn’t been on the market for several years… how could I miss it? HOW???? No it ain’t exactly the same but it’s as close as you possibly can get! And I am super excited!!!! Of course I bought a package but that wasn’t for the dogs, that’s for sure!
How I wish mom could be here now! She would have loved it! It was delicious! Almost mindblowing that I for so long time had no clue that this existed! It certainly brightened up my day!
