I have always loved horse shows and to work EMS at horseshows are fun! Okay, yes, I have to admit, I would prefer to show but I at least get paid to watch! So that’s how I have spent the last two days. Yesterday was a long and warm day. It ended up being almost 13 hours in 98 degree heat. As you may guess, heat related calls was absolutely on the schedule. It surprises me how people can believe they can perform in this heat without not just drinking but also eating!
While heading to a call, my golf cart decided that uphill was not something fun. I made it to the call but had to swap golf cart afterwards. There is something with me and golf carts… well the second one I got had so comfy seats, my back really enjoyed that switch!
But I had a great time. I met many fun people and saw some beautiful horses and ponies! And I got to dream about one day showing myself again, even though I do dressage and not hunter/jumper…
What does surprise me is the impact and importance the trainer has. In Sweden the trainer follows on some shows but it is maybe one or two per year. Here it seems like it’s almost the trainer deciding what shows the rider goes on and once there they tell the rider what to do when and how. The trainer also gets awards for different things, most winning students etc. It is just quite different than what I am used to…
