It is Valentines Day… I honestly could not care less. It is 9 months since mom passed away. And it is the first day of the upcoming cold snap and snowmageddon Texas is about to endure. And it was really cold this morning when I took off to work! It was my stand by day and I knew I was being called in, just so grateful that I got a shift on my regular truck. Not knowing what we were going into today, just hoping that people would understand that they had to stay home as much as possible. Well, they didn’t. We were not super slammed, more steady but we met people in locations they did not need to be! Donuts is not important when it is ice all over the roads!

It may not look so bad right now but all this is ice. Slick, horrible ice. People in Texas has no clue how to behave on roads like this! We were going at the max 40 mph with the ambulance. Regardless of priority of the calls. We just couldn’t go faster. It was cold today, but it will be even colder. This is just the beginning. This is really when I will have to unpack my Swedish mentality to the weather and just deal with it. I am grateful that I grew up in this. Remember, Sweden has this weather from November to March… At least I know how to drive in this!

The next days will be so interesting. I believe Texas is in for a ride they have never endured before…
