I was contacted earlier this week by Kaufman County Office Of Emergency Management asking if EastTex CERT could help out this weekend at the Vaccination Hub in Terrell. As always, the team comes together and are just top notch!
We helped out with anything non medical. Helped people inside from the cold, made sure they came to the right station, answered all kind of questions and was just present in case of anything would happen. The medical part was handled by Careflite and Terrell Fire Department. As they covered everything I didn’t have to think about that at all, which was nice. At an event like this I often meet a lot of people I know, and especially if it’s in Terrell and today was no different!
This hub is located at Trinity Valley Community College Health Science Center in Terrell and of course I found a room that I felt I belonged to… haha! It was so fun to sneak in here and take a peak!
We actually had an interesting incident happen. An older woman got stuck in one of the bathroom stalls. She tried to call her husband but he had his phone on silence. She tried to scream but no one heard her so she had to crawl under the door. Thankfully she was able to get out on her own but we had to go in and see what had happened. Sure enough, Captain Gentry from Terrell FD actually had to come and open it with a screwdriver because it was stuck!
So glad she made it out without problems and what would we do without our firefighters say? We put an “Out Of Service” note on the door and TVCC’s maintenance later came and repaired the door back to full function later in the day. But guess if we had an extra eye on the bathrooms so it didn’t happen again!
It was a fun and smooth day. Totally 300 people got their first Covid vaccination. We will do another 300 tomorrow. Hopefully people will beat the cold and get out so they can get their first shot!
