Needless to say, the project with the song Single City has not progressed as planned. Initially it was meant to release it in December. I wanted to have it out before the holidays and we had a tentative day set for the 15th. When we started to plan this project it was certainly doable. We went to the studio, got all the music done, got the dates for the video shoot. We had to change the dates on the second shoot due to my hospital stay but we got it done. It was tight but when we left the shoot I was told that event though it was just a couple of days it would happen. Christmas got closer and still no video. Then, on the 21st I finally got the first draft. It was really good but some minor changes had to be made.
I now had in mind to release it between Christmas and New Year. And I had my hopes up for a very long time. Even the producer said that it would be possible, but he suggested to release the video on January 3, after the new year.
Just after Christmas I got another link to a video in my mailbox but that version of the video was totally messed up. It was not even the entire song. The song is almost 4 minutes long and this video was only 1:40. So I had to sent that back. And since then I have not seen another version. I have asked for another link and I was promised to get a version hand delivered on a flash drive to me last night to ensure I got it but no one showed up and I didn’t hear anything.
It is now January 4th and as I am writing this, I have yet not seen the video. I have therefore come to that decision that regardless if the video is not approved I will release the song on Saturday January 9th. The reason for choosing that day is that it is my late mothers birthday. It will be an honor to her to drop it on that specific day. Then I’ll have to take the battle with the video as it comes. But honestly, I believe there will only be the song that comes out on Saturday.
I don’t think I have to explain my disappointment over this. Not only that it’s not been released yet but also for the embarrassment that you build up an expectation, say a date, then have to postpone it, not once but several times. And there is nothing I can do about it. It is paid, it is done from my part and all I can do is be mad and hope that something will happen soon, because apparently there is no respect for me and my project.
This has also taught me a couple of things… Shut up about releasing your projects on a specific day. Don’t set a day until you have the finished product in your possession. I should just drop them like Taylor Swift does, out of nowhere… it works for her so why not for me? And don’t pay everything until you have the final product. Wait until you have approved everything.
So, let the countdown begin! Saturday January 9th is the day!
