Considering how many calls I run you would think it is more often that I have to call for the Big Orange Bird aka UT Health EMS Air1. But when we need them and they are able to respond they are a very crucial link in getting the patient to the hospital.

We had one of those calls yesterday, and it was one of those calls when it first of all ran so smoothly as it possibly could and the patient got the best care very fast and I hope and believe that he will have a good and speedy recovery.
Air 1 was requested very early on and they were already in the air from Tyler which shortened the response time with almost 15 minutes if not more! So by the time we came on scene they were already hovering above us confirming landing place and at the time we made it to the patient they had already landed. But the terrain to where the patient was, was quite challenging. Straight in the woods, about 500 yards. This was one of those calls where all my walking and working out, skills training, mental training and coolness had to be put in action. Teamwork between fire, ems, police and Air 1 was top notch and went so smooth! Both my EMS skills, search and rescue skills and physical skills turned out to be pretty okay as well after all! We were able to get the patient to the helicopter and off they went to the hospital! And all of us on the ground got our workout for the day, that’s for sure. I was very glad that I had a bottle of water in the truck! But I had the time to take a video of when the helicopter took off…
