You know all those National such and such day we have here… well today it is Cinnamon Bun Day in Sweden. I believe at least 80% of my friends in Sweden have baked at least one batch of cinnamon buns today. That is all I have seen on social media (in between the news about the president having covid).
So what is so special with the cinnamon buns in Sweden then? Well, nothing really. Here in US we use a sugar glaze on them and almost drown them in the sugar while in Sweden we use pearl sugar instead which makes the bun less sweet and enhances the taste of cinnamon instead. I for example don’t like all that sugar on them, I prefer the pearl sugar. It also gives some texture to the buns in my opinion. Some donut shops here has what’s called Old Fashion Cinnamon Bun and I prefer those!
I really wanted to make my own cinnamon buns today but I don’t have a kitchen aid so I can’t. I don’t really have the money right now to invest in one either. And of course, I wasn’t smart enough to look ahead and be prepared of this day so I had to sit and drool over the pictures instead. But at least I didn’t get fat from it! And who knows, one day I may be able to afford a kitchen aid so I can make my own buns. Then I can also make the Swedish Saffron Buns (Lussekatter) for Christmas!
