After yesterday’s little ordeal at the PCP’s office I today headed down to Tyler and Mother Frances / Louis and Peaches Heart Hospital. I felt decent on my way there but I could feel my blood pressure going its own little way on my way to the clinic. When I got up there my blood pressure was extremely high to be me with a systolic of 144. I am usually around 100 on vasoconstricting medication (Midodrine). So my headache was kind of self explanatory.
I met with one of the nurse practitioners whom I had never met before (surprisingly). After we went through what happened she went to call the cardiologist to see what the next step is. As I said yesterday, it would probably be ablation within the near future but that was not the outcome today. Instead he wanted to put me on a new medication first, a steroid… Well I guess that’s what we will do. Honestly I am not happy about it, mainly because it is a steroid. I will gain so much weight and will have to work out even harder to keep that off. But if they think it will work, I am willing to try.

The nurse practitioner was not really happy with me being so dizzy and having so high blood pressure so first of all she would not let me go back to work tomorrow. Driving an ambulance was simply a no no. Especially with starting on new medications too the same day. But they wanted me to go down to the ER to draw labs and get a bag of fluids to make sure there was nothing that had or could be fixed. Especially since only urine and covid was done yesterday. In that way they could at least let me drive home. Well well… This turned out to a more annoying visit but what could I do. I needed to drive home anyway and a bag of fluids and some labs couldn’t hurt more than my time and the inconvenience for the emergency department. So they rolled me down to the ER in a wheel chair.
I told the ER doctor that this would probably be one of his easiest bullshit patients of the day, it wasn’t after all my desire to go to the ER…
Sure enough, the labs turned out fine. It was really pitch perfect! I can’t even remember when I had that good bloodwork last! So once the fluids was done I was allowed to leave the hospital and go home.

While I was sitting there waiting for the fluids to be over with I got some awesome visitors. First my supervisor Tim and my friend Tracy stopped by. Well, Tim was so nice and went to the EMS room to grab me some chips so he didn’t get in the picture… Tracy and I went to EMT school together and she is now a medic student and does her rideout on the trucks in Athens. Tim got called in on his SOC day so it was a surprise to see both of them together coming in!

Just a couple of minutes later, Mineola’s B-shift came to say hi with Seth and Angela!

I am so blessed to have friends and coworkers like this! They all made my day!!! Taking the time out of their shift when they drop off patients to find me somewhere in that ER to say hi! That made my day! Thank you guys so much!

I am back home now, not really sure of what to do. The bolus fluids made me feel a lot better. It took away my headache. I’m frustrated that I won’t work tomorrow, mostly financially since I don’t have PTO still to take. And if I feel like I do right now it will be even more annoying to not work when I was supposed to. But better safe than sorry I guess… it all comes down to not driving with new medications and it is a safety thing so I agree! I bet I can come up with something to do…
