Never been a doubt that I love my job… If you do your mails to match the ambulance you better like it at least a little!
Yepp, that is how my nails are looking right now! Orange and grey, just to match the boo-boo bus!
The shift yesterday was insane. We left the station at 7:15 am and we did not cross the county line again until 5:45 pm and right away we got another call so we didn’t come back to the station until 7pm, and it wasn’t until then we got our first meal of the day. We bumped into our CEO and VP of Operations at the hospital around 4pm and they left some cold water and snacks for us in the truck as a surprise and OMG did I love that or what! It was so little but right there and then it was just that little appreciation that was needed to keep us going for a couple of more hours a day like this.
The night continued busy but we got about 3 hours of sleep which was much needed and welcome.
I came home this morning and I had crossed that line of tiredness so it wouldn’t matter if I went to bed or not. I wouldn’t be able to sleep anyway. My head was heavy and I was a little nauseous but I knew what it was from so I wasn’t worried about it, I chose to ignore it. Always when I get home the dogs are extremely energetic and happy. Nothing else to expect really. I gave them breakfast and took them for a walk, as I most of the times do when I get home. That gives them something to else to look at than our back yard, they get some socialization and they get to move a little so when we get home they have no problems of resting for an hour while I do my power walk. I don’t bring the dogs with me on my walk due to several reasons. First of all, I walk too fast for Twix and when I walk I don’t want to be interrupted by all smells that I can’t smell anyway. And I walk along hwy 80 and to walk 2 dogs there is not really preferable. I can take another route but nope. They already had their walk anyway.
I started doing virtual races earlier this year. I have made it to where I sign up for a race and then when the bling comes in the mail I have 2-3 days to get the race done that I signed up for. Thereafter I can hang the medal next to the others. First I thought the idea of paying money to do a walk just because of some bling was the most stupid thing ever but then I realized that many of these races actually support a cause and I found it more reasonable to do it. Last week I saw a race that had a pretty cool medal. Didn’t pay much attention to anything but thought I needed some encouragement again to keep on walking so I decided to join the “Chase the Unicorn 5K” and the medal came in the mail yesterday. Well I now had today and tomorrow to get this done. And did I need that motivator today or what? I was not in the mood of doing any walking what so ever after that rough shift but I wanted to have this over and done with. So off I went!
For once I felt that I really earned that medal. The time wasn’t my best but I had to fight for it. I was sweating and pushing today like there was no tomorrow. I was determined that I was going to make it around the 3.1 mile loop I have measured out. And I did. Not the best time ever but I was pleased and proud that I did it! It was so cool to unpack this afterwards and see that it was actually the biggest medal I have! When I hung it up among the others I counted and it was my 20th virtual race of 2020, not too shabby if I may say it myself!
